Child Custody

There are several different child custody arrangements which can be agreed upon by the parties or determined by the Court. These include but are not limited to:

• Sole custody where one parent is exclusively in charge of the health, education, and welfare of the children.
• Joint custody where the parents are equally responsible for all decisions concerning the children.
• Joint custody with residential custody to one parent where the children live with one parent and enjoy visitation (parenting time) with the other parent. Both parents share in decision-making.

Parenting Time

It is essential that children spend as much time as possible with their parents, especially when the parents are divorced.

Parents who are attempting to amicably resolve their divorce can be as flexible or as specific as they want concerning the time each party spends with their children.

Divorce agreements commonly set forth which specific days and times the non-custodial parent spends with the children each week.

Holidays are also specifically set forth so there is no confusion or disagreement concerning who the children are to be with on a certain day.

If the parties cannot resolve their issues outside of court, a Judge will determine the parameters for parenting time.
